A Solid and Durable Fishing Kayak for under $400

Finding a fishing kayak for under $400 isn’t difficult but finding one of quality might take a little more time. There are actually many quality models on the market priced at or below $400. One of the best being the Sun Dolphin 10 Foot Fishing Kayak.

This model offers great value to a person that wants to take part in the sport of kayak fishing but has a smaller budget to work with.

If you want to know more about this model then there is some useful information below. A lot of the information is provided by current owners of this fishing kayak. You will also find a list of features and specs.

Just like all the expensive models on the market the hull of this Sun Dolphin kayak is also designed from molded polyethylene. This is a tough durable material that should last you a lifetime.

This model also has a total of three rod holders. Being able to more than one line in the water is a great way to test the waters.Sun Dolphin Excursion 10 Fishing Kayak

What do current owners say about the Sun Dolphin Excursion 10 Fishing  Kayak

Many times when buying a product the Cons are more important than the Pros. We will start with some of the common compliments.

John W – Santa Cruz, Calif - Some aspects about this kayak are good. And sure it’s good enough to get in the water and fish with, just don’t expect to super high quality kayak. I found it difficult to carry. I will keep this as an extra kayak but will be looking for a higher quality kayak to use as my main fishing vessel. Honestly, it seems as though you should expect to spend at least $500 for a nice fishing kayak.

Jimmy B – Dobson, NC – One of the foot braces broke after only a few times out. The carrying handles are in my opinion flimsy. But if you’re looking to spend around $350 the kayak does do its job once in the water. My recommendation is neutral. And the customer service is good, they quickly sent me a foot brace replacement.

Dave M – Centerville, Ohio – I liked the idea of having a swivel rod holder. However, when the kayak finally arrived at my home and I checked this rod holder out I thought it was cheaply made. One of my foot braces also broke. But the company has good customer service they quickly sent me a new braces.

Is the Sun Dolphin Excursion 10 Fishing Kayak  cheap?

The purpose of this kayak and those similarly priced is to give anglers that are  new to the sport of kayak fishing an inexpensive option when starting off. If you buy the Sun Dolphin Excursion 10 Fishing Kayak expecting the same quality as top-end models such as the Jackson Cuda or Hobie Pro Angler, that’s not realistic to think.

These top models can cost over $1000 some even over $2000. You can’t expect a kayak that costs less than $400 to provide the same quality.

Who is this kayak perfect for?

  • Someone new to the sport of kayak fishing.
  • Someone on a tight budget.
  • Someone who might only go out fishing a couple times a year.
  • Someone who rents a lot.
  • Parents or grandparents looking for a gift for the kids or grandchildren.
