We review many of the different Hobie fishing kayaks on our site simply because we believe this brand offers such high quality kayaks. It doesn’t matter which one of their many models, ask about it in any sporting goods store or search the internet for reviews you simply will not hear or read complaints.
This review is on the Hobie Mirage Sport Kayak this one has been around since 2012 but still is one of the most popular and best sellers.
This is a smaller version compared to their other fishing kayaks. Only 9 feet and 7 inches in length but still has all the great features that the larger models have. Such as the MirageDrive, finger tip steering, larger water-proof storage areas, a large rear bungee area, rod holders, comfortable seating with high back-support just to name a few. It also has a sail mount.
It’s stable, versatile, highly maneuverable and cuts through the water like a knife cuts through butter. The fishing adventures
So who is this best suited for and why?
Women, Younger, Older and Shorter Anglers…
As we mentioned at the top of the page its only 9 feet and 7 inches in length, the width is 29.5 inches and it only weighs 48 pounds. Wow!!! That is light!!! Some kayaks weigh over 100 pounds, imagine loading that sucker up and dragging it in and out of the water.
This smaller Hobie is really is a cinch to load and put in and take out of the water.
Because of these smaller dimensions the Hobie Mirage Sport Kayak is very popular with women, younger and also older anglers. Because its under 30 inches wide anglers who may be a little shorter than average may also find this to be a very good choice for them since paddling will be much easier.
What are the best features of the Hobie Mirage Sport Kayak
There’s not a whole lot of talking on the video but it does give you a good look at this kayak. Below the video you will find a list that mentions of some of the more impressive features of this Hobie Sport model.
- Twist and stow rudder – Easy steering. The rudder controls are pure genius. Near your seat, on the left and right side are control mechanisms. All you need to do is use one side and twist clockwise and counterclockwise to steer left or right. And if you decide for whatever reason you don’t need a rudder today its completely retractable.
- MirageDrive - How great would it be if your hands were free to fish as your kayak was also able to propel and maneuver through the water? Sounds like an unfair advantage. Well, the MiragDrive provides this advantage. This is a built-in peddle mechanism. So instead of having to use a paddle you are able to propel the kayak with your feet. Also great in currents when you want to stay on a specific spot, just pump the peddles to match the current as your hands are free for fishing.
