What can we say about the Emotion Glide Sports Kayak. How does this sporty recreational model compare against similar models? Would we recommend another model over this one? Who and what type water conditions is it made for?
The price has recently been discounted so we want to inform you on the best price and what not to “pay more than” for this model. Many places you will find it for sale will still be trying to sell it for the initial retail price, so pay attention if you want to save a bit of cash. Lets just say, if you are paying more than $350 then you are paying too much.
The video review below does an excellent job showing you what this kayak looks like as well as reviewing the major features.
What about size? Who and water conditions is this best for?
The “Glide” is a sit inside “sports” model just under 10 feet in length (9 feet 8 inches) and has a carrying capacity of 275 lbs. The kayak itself weighs about 40 lbs. The first time we saw this on the water was on Lake Tahoe, the lake was fairly rough that day producing good size waves.
It performed very well in the choppy waves of this big lake, so we agree with the manufacture (Emotion) when they recommend it for these water conditions. But since this is a sit-inside kayak, you will want to buy a spray skirt to keep the water out.
The manufacture also recommends this for paddling in bays and slow moving rivers, after seeing it’s performance in the waves of Lake Tahoe, bays and slow moving rivers should be no problem for the Emotions Glide Sport Kayak.
We never have ourselves but we have talked to various kayakers who have taken this out into faster moving rivers.
Built for a person how big
The guy we met paddling this on Lake Tahoe was well over 6 feet tall. Probably between 6-3 and 6-4.
One of the guys with us on the expedition had the chance to paddle in it, he’s also taller than 6 feet (6-2 probably) both of these men said the kayak provided ample leg space.
With that said, do keep in mind the carrying capacity is 275 pounds. Since it does provide bungees on the bow and stern for carrying equipment make sure to consider the total weight of your equipment + your body weight.
- Durable – built from high-density polyethylene
- Stable – bolted in padded seat
- Comfort – thigh pads
- Carry equipment – Bungees located on both the stern and bow ends
- Thirsty – Two water bottle holders
- Put down the paddle and relax – paddle keep, holder
- Carry to the water – handles on both the stern and bow
As already stated the Emotion Glide Sport is a sit-inside recreational kayak measuring 9 feet 8 inches in length, has a carrying capacity of 275 pounds and weighs approximately 40 pounds.
In 2015, the best price we found for this model is $319, we have also seen it for just under $350 ($349) if you pay over these prices you will be paying too much. At these prices ($319 – $349) we do believe it provides excellent quality and recommend it.
If you are looking for other kayaks we recommend in the $300-$400 price range (see the links below) we do have a list which you may find helpful in choosing your next kayak.
