Clam Shimano Spin Reel Clam reviewConsidering the Price the Clam Spinning Reel Offers Tremendous Value

How many different sizes are there of the Shimano Spinning Reel Clam? Which one is best suited for your specific needs? These are the two main questions we will be answering in the following review. The Clam comes in three different sizes:

IX-100RC
4.1:1 11.8 Ounce 10/200
4.1:1 8.7 Ounce 8/120

These are inexpensive reels, the highest priced of the three sizes is the 4.1:1 8.7 Ounce 8/120 Clam, which can be purchased online for right around $15. Yes, these are cheapies, however they hold great value. You might be surprised to learn just how many anglers actually love this reel. Take a gander at the image below showing how customers feel of the Clam Spinning Reel Series.

Great reel for kids who are just beginning to fish, also makes a great back-up to have in your tackle box. Many anglers use this as their main reel as well, and when asked they claim the spinning action is just too smooth to give up for a more expensive reel.

Not only do they say how smooth the spinning action is, many give compliments about the CLAM’S lightweight and super smooth drag and adjustable settings.

Comparing 4.1:1 11.8 Ounce 10/200 to 4.1:1 8.7 Ounce 8/120

The main differences between the three different models in the Clam series of spinning reels can be found in their Line Capacities, Maximum Drags,  Gear Ratios and Weights.

4.1:1 11.8 Ounce 10/200:

  • Line Capacity 10/20 Size 40 Reel
  • Max Drag: 15lbs
  • Gear Ratio: 4.1:1
  • Weight: 11.4 oz

4.1:1 8.7 Ounce 8/120

  • Line Capacity 8/20 Size 20 Reel
  • Max Drag: 7lbs
  • Gear Ratio: 4.1:1
  • Weight: 8.6 oz

If you plan on going after bigger and strong fish then the 4.1:1 11.8 Ounce 10/200 would be the one you want wihich has a stronger drag and maximum line capacity. If you plan on doing some small fishing then the 4.1:1 8.7 Ounce 8/120 is better suited for this.

This is far from being the best reel on the market but when taking the low price into consideration between $9-15 online, this is a high value reel with many satisfied customers to prove it. Whichever size in the series you do decide to purchase you really can’t go wrong.
