Best Kayak To Buy 12 – 13 Year-Old Boy

by frank on November 13, 2014

Buy him the most expensive kayak, he will love you for it?

Unless your made of money do not follow the advice given above! Even if you are, you might not want to follow this advice since it’s horrible. Today, a 12 or 13 year old boy might be begging you to buy him or help him buy a kayak. But tomorrow who knows what he will be interested in.

We all have been at this age. He might take the kayak out a few times and lose interest. It happens frequently at this age. I know you can think back to a time you begged your dad for something then quickly lost interest. Please, don’t get upset that happens, it’s common.

What type of kayak?

If you have never bought one and aren’t familiar with kayaks, there are different types and styles made for specific activities. Here’s a nice versatile one for kids, the Malibu Kayaks Mini-X.  An extremely stable sit-on-top kayak meant for recreational paddling, fishing and can also be used as a diving platform.

Scuba diving, recreational paddling, and fishing

As with many kayaks, the Malibu model above doesn’t come with a comfortable seat. There’s a “seating area” and many do use this model without installing a “seat”. If you like this model but buying a seat is a must, we recommend the Crack of Dawn Apex 1 Deluxe Kayak Seat it fits this model very well.

How much do you want to spend

And just for your information, even less expensive kayaks aren’t exactly cheap! But this is what we recommend buying a 12 year-old boy something entry-level and less expensive.

As we said a young boy might lose interest. But also, a young boy is going to grow. You want to buy him something he can handle and feel comfortable in NOW for his body size now but since he will be growing dropping a lot of money now is somewhat pointless.

Top kayaks for 12 and 13 year old boys

Below you will find a list of different styles of kayaks specifically designed for different activities on the water. Our goal is to recommend the best value for the price.

THE DECISION: There’s no doubt your 12 year old son will be growing. So do you buy him a smaller 10 foot model now? Or a larger 12 foot kayak he will grow into? Many parents opt to buy the larger kayak  Maybe he has a younger brother who can take over the 10 footer?
